When I created The Dark Rose Emporium, I thought I was building a bookstore.
Today, I know it was never just about books.
It was always about people.
The people who never quite fit in anywhere and for the ones who spent years feeling misunderstood.
The ones who were told to hide their emotions kept everything on the inside because no one listened, had big dreams, or took up too much space in a world that often seems far more comfortable with conformity than individuality.
I know what that feels like.
I know what it feels like to spend years trying to fit into a frame that was never meant for me.
To be quieter. Easier to understand. Easier to accept.
And I know what it feels like to eventually realize that maybe the problem was never that you were too much.
Maybe the problem was that you were trying to fit into places that were never built for you in the first place.
Over the years, I have met people from all over the world carrying that same feeling. Women rebuilding themselves after trauma and abuse. Neurodivergent minds trying to navigate a world that wasn't designed with them in mind.
Readers who found strength inside stories when reality felt too heavy to carry alone. Outsiders who spent most of their lives wondering what was wrong with them.
And time and time again, I have seen the same thing.
The problem is rarely the person.
The problem is the shame made by people without knowledge, education or lived experience.
The shame of feeling deeply.
The shame of being different.
The shame of not fitting neatly into someone else's expectations.
The shame of reading the wrong books, loving the wrong things, or existing in ways that make other people uncomfortable.
That is why The Dark Rose Emporium exists.
Because I believe people have the right to own their own stories.
I believe women have the right to their own bodies, their own emotions, their own fantasies, and their own choices.
I believe survivors have the right to define their own experiences.
I believe neurodivergent people deserve to be listened to, not simply analyzed.
And I believe people understand themselves far better than society often gives them credit for.
For me, dark romance has never been just about romance. In the same way fantasy is not just about dragons.
Stories allow us to explore fear, longing, grief, resilience, love, survival, identity, and hope. They give us language for experiences we sometimes struggle to explain, even to ourselves.
That does not mean books replace therapy or professional support.
They do not.
But stories can help us reflect. They can help us feel seen. They can remind us that we are not alone, they can help us find our inner voice that has been screaming for years trying to break free.
That belief is also what inspired The Dark Narrative Reflection Framework™ a reflection tool inspired by bibliotherapeutic principles, designed to help readers explore thoughts, emotions, and personal experiences through literature.
At the same time, I will always fight for the stories and voices that are too often dismissed, misunderstood, or overlooked.
For the indie authors brave enough to write what others avoid.
For the readers who find strength in stories that others mock.
For the women who refuse to be ashamed of their emotions, their desires, or their voices.
For the outsiders who are tired of being told they should become less.
The Dark Rose Emporium was never created to help people fit in.
It was created to remind people that they may never have needed to.
If you have ever felt alone, misunderstood, or like you never quite belonged anywhere, I hope you find something here.
Maybe a book.
Maybe a story.
Maybe a community.
Or maybe just the feeling that someone else understands.
Welcome home.
